A friend of mine built an 818 several years ago. His prior build was a supercharged Monster Miata that was an absolute beast. When I had my Miata, I’d scavenge parts off him as he upgraded them on his.

It still pisses me off that Factory Five held a design competition to pen the body of that kit... then promptly threw away all the results, and designed a body that makes a powerwheels kiddie car look well proportioned and executed.
And also designed the chassis so absolutely short and non-modular that the EZ30R or EZ36D flat 6 engines won’t fit between the transaxle location and the firewall behind the seats.
So much under-developed opportunities there. I was a Subaru fanatic, and I love affordable mid-engine cars... this should be my Holy Grail, but I can barely stand to look at it...
And it doesn’t hold a candle to just buying a 986 Boxster S for 10-15 grand, rather than building this for nearly 20 grand.
If you want a racer... 20 grand will go a long way in terms of stripping down and modifying a $5-7K cosmetically rough 986 for track rat duty.

And it shows in the bidding. Surprised this didn’t hit 20k, but with what you said, it makes sense. Why go the route of a kit car, when you can have a real OEM car that would be more sorted? The cobra kit cars make sense to me, because to get the same in real life, you’d have to have a huge pocketbook, but for this, you are absolutely correct, buy a rough Porsche and make it track ready.
Full of the sound of the Gran Fury, signifying nothing.

Sorry, but that is not attractive. It reminds me of an episode of Futurama:

I made up for it with last night's car. 818 kilos in a turbo four sounds like fun though
